Deborah & Jael (Beacons & Tent Dwellers) | Prophetic Word

Toward the end of 2025, the LORD asked me a simple question:

Are you prepared to be a BEACON?

It was not a plea or a request, rather it was a question measuring my readiness and willingness to take hold of what he had already set in stone.

I sensed the urgency and breadth of the question, recognising that it was reverberating within the spiritual eardrums of many.

Let’s break down the word “beacon”:

b e a c o n

noun

  1. a fire or light set up in a high or prominent position as a warning, signal, or celebration.

It is important to note that the LORD anoints & appoints for the purpose of, so his use of the term “beacon” indicates an intentional elevating of position, influence and/or impact that is purposed for warning, signalling, or celebrating (i.e. revealing) the hidden realities of heaven he chooses to reveal on the earth.

Upon asking me this question in late 2025, the LORD proceeded to reveal the following:

In the coming days, prepare to witness a rise in the collaboration of Deborah (a beacon) and Jael (a “tent dweller”).

Deborah

History

Scripture describes Deborah as a wife, judge, and prophet.

[4] Deborah, the wife of Lappidoth, was a prophet who was judging Israel at that time. [5] She would sit under the Palm of Deborah, between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim, and the Israelites would go to her for judgment. ~ Judges 4:4-5 NLT

Deborah was strategically positioned:

  1. “Under the palm of Deborah” = Palm trees hold biblical symbolism of righteousness & flourishing [Psalm 92:12], victory, peace
  2. Between Tamah & Bethel = Neutral ground, not reserved to any one group, accessible to travellers
  3. In the hill country of Ephraim = High grounds providing natural and authentic (i.e. not forced) elevation, visibility, and accessibility in the open air (not hidden)

The foreamentioned scripture informs us that Deborah was approached by the Israelites for judgment. But in the following verse, we also see Deborah summoning Barak to speak a prophetic message from the LORD to him (see below).

One day she sent for Barak son of Abinoam, who lived in Kedesh in the land of Naphtali. She said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, commands you: Call out 10,000 warriors from the tribes of Naphtali and Zebulun at Mount Tabor. And I will call out Sisera, commander of Jabin’s army, along with his chariots and warriors, to the Kishon River. There I will give you victory over him.”

Judges 4:6-7 NLT

In the song of Deborah (Judges 5), Deborah describes herself as having risen “as a mother” to all Israel. This is important to highlight, as it indicates that in Deborah’s leadership, she did not resort to competing with or mimicking her male counterparts, rather, she leant into her God given empowerment and capacity as a mother to wisely instruct, powerfully nurture, and significantly alter the course of a nation for God’s glory.

Application for today

The Lord has strategically positioned the present-day Deborah in authentic spaces of visibility for the purpose of providing biblically sound wisdom and prophetic insights to those who cross her path. The present-day Deborah will not be confined to a building but will provide wisdom from neutral and accessible “everyday” spaces.

The prophetic insights and Godly wisdom provided through Deborah shall awaken revelation and repentance within those seeking godly counsel, kick-starting radical reforms within families, communities, and nations.

Deborah herself may not be the hands and feet of these processes. However, the seasoned wisdom, strategic positioning, and prophetic anointing she possesses will often be the key that unlocks the actions of others.

Like Deborah, are you prepared to arise as a mother to your “nation” (sphere of influence)?

Are you prepared to be consulted regarding matters of importance?

Are you prepared to communicate the LORD’s wisdom and heart in place of your personal opinion?

This is what will be demanded of “Deborah” in this hour.

Jael

“Most blessed among women is Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite. May she be blessed above all women who live in tents. ~ Judges 5:24 NLT

History

Jael was a tent dweller (or, “Bedouin”), married to Heber the Kenite. She is largely known for driving a nail through the head of an unsuspecting Sisera, commander of King Jabin’s (Canaanite) army, thus fulfilling the prophecy of Prophet Deborah in Judges 4:9.

17 Sisera, meanwhile, fled on foot to the tent of Jael, the wife of Heber the Kenite, because there was an alliance between Jabin king of Hazor and the family of Heber the Kenite.

18 Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, “Come, my lord, come right in. Don’t be afraid.” So he entered her tent, and she covered him with a blanket.

19 “I’m thirsty,” he said. “Please give me some water.” She opened a skin of milk, gave him a drink, and covered him up.

20 “Stand in the doorway of the tent,” he told her. “If someone comes by and asks you, ‘Is anyone in there?’ say ‘No.’”

21 But Jael, Heber’s wife, picked up a tent peg and a hammer and went quietly to him while he lay fast asleep, exhausted. She drove the peg through his temple into the ground, and he died.

Judges 4:17-21

Jael was not a formally trained warrior, and yet she was the instrument God utilised to put an end to Sisera’s terror (an action that aided in strengthening the nation of Israel against the Canaanites). She was resourceful and made the most of the opportunity presented to her (Ephesians 5:16) to aid the LORD’s people (much like Rahab in Joshua 2).

Application for today

The LORD is preparing to make use of Jael in this hour. She is largely unseen and out of the spotlight, but do not mistake her reduced visibility for reduced effectiveness, for she is a secret weapon in the hands of God. The modern-day Jael is flexible and resourceful, making much of the seemingly little she has to work with. She does not actively seek out glory or reward for herself but allows her deeds done in secret to speak for themselves.

22 Just then Barak came by in pursuit of Sisera, and Jael went out to meet him. “Come,” she said, “I will show you the man you’re looking for.” So he went in with her, and there lay Sisera with the tent peg through his temple—dead.

Judges 4:22

To the modern-day Jael,

What resources have you been given? Are you ready to wield them when the time is right?

Are you prepared not to indulge self glorification but to embrace the satisfaction of fulfilling the will of God instead?

Like Rahab, the prostitute in Joshua 2, Jael will be considered the ‘unexpected choice’. Though she may be unexpected in the eyes of man, she is willing to be used by God for the fulfilment of his holy purposes.

Deborah was authentically visible, Jael was hidden in plain sight, and the same shall be true for their modern-day representatives.

Reader, take note: Scripture instructs us that our fight is not against flesh and blood (see Ephesians 6:12), and, though it may be obvious to some, I want to make it very clear that this word is not using the story of Jael as literal or prescriptive, and is not inviting you to find literal weapons to cause harm to your subjective ‘enemies’. Yes, Jael was armed with a tent peg and a hammer to overcome the threat of her time, but this word invites the reader to pay attention to what gifts, skills, and resources God has given them to fulfil his good plans today; plans that radiate his glory here on earth through, for example, advocating for those who cannot advocate for themselves, judging fairly (see Proverbs 31:8-9), and ultimately overcoming the works of darkness with good (see Romans 12:21).

Barak

[14] Then Deborah said to Barak, “Get ready! This is the day the Lord will give you victory over Sisera, for the Lord is marching ahead of you.” So Barak led his 10,000 warriors down the slopes of Mount Tabor into battle. [15] When Barak attacked, the Lord threw Sisera and all his chariots and warriors into a panic. Sisera leaped down from his chariot and escaped on foot. [16] Then Barak chased the chariots and the enemy army all the way to Harosheth-haggoyim, killing all of Sisera’s warriors. Not a single one was left alive.

Judges 4:14-16 NLT

History

Barak was a military commander who declined to engage in battle without the presence of Prophet & Judge, Deborah. Though this is commonly interpreted as being due to fear, it is possible that Barak was drawing strategic strength from Israel’s historical victory over the Amalekites (see Exodus 17), as it is documented that Moses stood with his staff over his head (under God’s instruction), leading to Israel’s victory. Regardless, it was made clear that Barak’s hesitation to move with confidence on the word of God alone would alter the recipient of glory. See Judges 4:8-9 below:

Barak said to her, “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” “Certainly I will go with you,” said Deborah. “But because of the course you are taking, the honor will not be yours, for the Lord will deliver Sisera into the hands of a woman.” So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh.

It is important to note that despite Barak’s hesitance [and its subsequent consequence], the LORD still permitted him to play a primary role in obtaining victory in battle. Barak later rejoiced and praised God for Israel’s victory, alongside Deborah (see Judges 5).

Application for today

The modern-day Barak is an intercessor commissioned to prayerfully prepare for the prophetically declared word of God to be fulfilled. Barak prepares the way in prayer under the continued instruction of the LORD. Barak’s prayers will act as a “set up” for Jael to fulfil the prophecy of the LORD (as spoken through Deborah).

How do they intersect?

There is a collaboration occurring between Deborah and Jael to the fulfil the prophetic instructions of God. Barak is the bridge between the commissioning and completion of God’s command.

Deborah envisioned and perceived, Barak conquered ground, and Jael finished the job.

Deborah is a beacon providing wisdom, direction, and insight. Barak is a warrior, deployed to fight battles. Jael is a tent dweller, optimally positioned to fulfil the will of the LORD on the ground.

Important reminder: Understand your position.

Many have felt that they need to operate as Deborah, Barak, and Jael at the same time.

They have felt like they need to singularly:

  1. Hear from God
  2. Fight the battle
  3. Execute the final blow

Which has led to a great deal of burnout and over functioning in the body of Christ.

Be reminded that the body is made up of many different parts that accomplish various functions to sustain the body. To employ a single handed approach to accomplishing the prophetic instruction of the LORD is to neglect valuable, commissioned and available members of the body (see 1 Corinthians 12 and 1 Peter 4:10).

27 Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 28 And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? 30 Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tongues? Do all interpret? 31 Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.

1 Corinthians 12:27-30

Where God has called you to stand as Deborah, relinquish the pressure to also operate as Barak and Jael (and vice versa), for this will exhaust your witness.

Further preparation:

  • Deborah

Be prepared to be a target.

Beacons shine so that travellers may be guided by their light. Be prepared for opposition that is drawn to your light due to your increased visibility in the darkness. Do not fear it. Simply be aware and do not allow it to dim your light or knock you out of position.

Be conscious of your consumption.

To be a trustworthy and reliable beacon, your consumption (and the motive behind your consumption) needs to be vetted by God. You may be experiencing an inward stirring to not only turn away from what once felt harmless, but to no longer be built up by confectionary, as your palate is refined.

A new burden.

Prophetic dreamers, prepare to receive a broader range of insights from the LORD. You may begin to dream about broader scale matters you haven’t previously dreamt of (such as government/global issues, not only local or personal concerns). This burden will initially appear overwhelming as you learn to adjust to the new load/demand, but fear not. The burden from the Lord is light, as his yoke is easy. Seek him and bring every burden before his feet. Seek his counsel and wisdom in how to respond to each revelation.

Confident & obedient wielding of the gift God has entrusted to you.

You will no longer wait to “feel” confident before exercising the gifts God has entrusted to you. Your confidence does not stem from self sufficiency, nor from the praises of man, but from the LORD.

This confidence will stem from a renewed revelation of your divine commissioning from the LORD (much like the prophet Jeremiah in Jeremiah 1:4-5 – The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew[a] you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”).

This confidence is backed by a holy fear that the LORD has awakened in you to steward the gift with reverence. Because you revere him, you steward the gift with care, and because you revere him, you do not hide the gift.

This confidence stems from the revelation that you are not the divine problem solver, that God has stationed Barak, Jael, and a multitude of warriors to collaborate and fulfil his divine work. Your job is to release the word (and inspire confidence in the LORD).

  • Jael

Prepare to be used, even when you would rather remain hidden!

Your humble resourcefulness is just what a ‘nation’ requires in this season
